Alison has more than 30 years’ senior HR experience, advising senior managers and governors on both strategic and operational people management issues.  She has been working as an independent consultant since leaving the University of Leicester, where she had been HR Director, in 2008.  Her clients include universities, multi-academy trusts, NHS bodies and third sector organisations.

Alison’s publications include Getting to Grips with HR (Leadership Foundation, 2009), Managing People (Open University Press, 2003) and Personnel Management in Higher Education Management – The Key Elements (eds Warner and Palfreyman, Open University Press, 1996), as well as number of peer-reviewed publications from her early career as a research scientist.

Alison was a member (and latterly Deputy Chair) of the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (which involved her in the recruitment and discipline of magistrates) between 2008 and 2017 and was an Independent Board Member of Leicester City Community Health Services until 2011.

Alison is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and she holds the Mediation Practitioner’s Certificate.  Her academic qualifications include a first degree in Genetics, a doctorate in Virology and a master’s degree in Law and Employment Relations.
